TekSavvy service subject to Terms and Conditions. Overall, internet is internet. The difference between cable and DSL Internet services is mainly in the way that the service is delivered and the characteristics of that infrastructure. DSL runs through lines typically associated with telephone service, where cable runs through lines typically associated with cable television service. A DSL connection requires an active phone line.

The DSL connection is a dedicated line. This means it is yours and only yours. Your bandwidth will not be affected by other users in the area. DSL is very dependent on the quality of the infrastructure and your distance from the nearest Central Office CO where the service ultimately connects to the outside world.

The further you are from the CO and the quality of the infrastructure leading to your home, and inside it, will determine what the highest speeds you will qualify for.

A cable connection runs through coaxial cabling. You are not required to have an active cable television service in your home to receive cable Internet service. This does not mean that your personal information is at risk. However, if the trunk is not wide enough to feed all the users in your area you may notice some congestion which leads to slower speeds when everyone is using the service at one time.

Coaxial cabling is heavily shielded, so distance is less of a concern when it comes to a cable connection. If you qualify for cable Internet, you should be eligible for any of the offered speeds. Any high speed Internet connection should be sufficient to stream videos online.

The need for additional speed will come into play when you take into consideration the quality of the video you would like to watch, and if you have additional devices in use at the same time.

To stream HD video, you should aim for at least a 15Mbps service. If you would like to stream HD videos while also using your phone, a laptop, a desktop or have some other devices going at the same time, consider bumping up your speed to the higher speed packages available for you. If you would like to use additional devices while streaming content, consider bumping up your speed to packages above this.

To use Internet service, you will need a modem. To connect multiple devices, or to achieve WiFi service, you will need a router. Nowadays, some modems are a combination device which includes a router built in. You can choose to use a standalone modem and a standalone router or opt to go with a modem-router combination device.

Across our services, we offer standalone modems or modem-router combinations to fit your needs. We can absolutely assist you in transferring your active services to TekSavvy.

Matthew Finnegan joined IDG UK in January 2013, having spent two years writing for tech news titles including TechEye and ChannelBiz. Online gambling firm Bet365 has swapped Java for a lesser known programming language, Erlang, enabling it to reduce the complexity of software underpinning its core betting platforms and scale systems to handle a fourfold increase in the number of users on its network.

Created by developers at Ericsson two decades ago to run its telephone exchanges, Erlang is a relatively simple programming language designed for large, high-availability applications. It garnered little attention outside of the telecoms industry since the mid-nineties, but has grown in prominence in recent years, with WhatsApp using it to handle billions of messages sent across its network each day.

It meant that we could get our software out there faster, and we could test it quicker, and from that we could increase the productivity of our developers. The team's aim is to trial technologies that could give the company an advantage in the highly competitive online betting market.

The team began to look at how NoSQL and alternative programming languages can be used to solve the problem of growing complexity of its systems, which were unable to cope with growing customer demand and the need to develop software for modern servers which rely on multiple processor cores to improve performance.

This meant that developers were forced to spend too much time maintaining existing systems to cope with bigger workloads, rather than focusing on creating new services. Macklin says that the idea of using Erlang three years ago was unusual, but made sense for an application that required so much parallel processing - a similar issue to that of Ericsson's developers.

He adds that, to scale systems effectively in this manner, a simplified code base is required - and Erlang is tailored to this task. The firm can now manage sharp increases in demand during busy periods - such as major sporting events - without slowing service to customers. We are an incredibly peaky business and we find that at the peak of trading we are able to provide our customer with a much more predictable quality product using Erlang," Macklin says. This allows customers to close their position early and take a return before an event - such as a football match - has finished.

Again it was about how we could leverage Erlang into that world. But once you get people through that initial pain barrier, the developers tend to really, really like it," Macklin insists. It is important to make it fun and intriguing, so developers can be passionate about it. Around 10 percent of the 300 IT staff at the company are now proficient with the language, and Macklin expects it will be used more widely in applications in future. However, the firm will continue to rely on other languages, such as Java and.

NET, which are better suited to certain tasks. Macklin adds that, despite not having the same profile as Scala or other emerging languages, it is likely to continue to gain traction with other businesses.

If you wanted a poster child for an organistion that has used Erlang and has been massively successful then they would be one. But the effect that it has had on our business has been really good, and it has been very effective in the problems we have used it for.An important aspect of the "description" of a variable is the shape of its distribution, which tells you the frequency of values from different ranges of the variable. Typically, a researcher is interested in how well the distribution can be approximated by the normal distribution (see the animation below for an example of this distribution) (see also Elementary Concepts).

Simple descriptive statistics can provide some information relevant to this issue. For example, if the skewness (which measures the deviation of the distribution from symmetry) is clearly different from 0, then that distribution is asymmetrical, while normal distributions are perfectly symmetrical.

More precise information can be obtained by performing one of the tests of normality to determine the probability that the sample came from a normally distributed population of observations (e. However, none of these tests can entirely substitute for a visual examination of the data using a histogram (i.

The graph allows you to evaluate the normality of the empirical distribution because it also shows the normal curve superimposed over the histogram.

It also allows you to examine various aspects of the distribution qualitatively. For example, the distribution could be bimodal (have 2 peaks). This might suggest that the sample is not homogeneous but possibly its elements came from two different populations, each more or less normally distributed. In such cases, in order to understand the nature of the variable in question, you should look for a way to quantitatively identify the two sub-samples.

To index Purpose (What is Correlation. The measurement scales used should be at least interval scales, but other correlation coefficients are available to handle other types of data. Correlation coefficients can range from -1. The value of -1. A value of 0. The most widely-used type of correlation coefficient is Pearson r, also called linear or product- moment correlation.

Simple Linear Correlation (Pearson r). Pearson correlation (hereafter called correlation), assumes that the two variables are measured on at least interval scales (see Elementary Concepts), and it determines the extent to which values of the two variables are "proportional" to each other.

The value of correlation (i. This line is called the regression line or least squares line, because it is determined such that the sum of the squared distances of all the data points from the line is the lowest possible.

How to Interpret the Values of Correlations. As mentioned before, the correlation coefficient (r) represents the linear relationship between two variables. If the correlation coefficient is squared, then the resulting value (r2, the coefficient of determination) will represent the proportion of common variation in the two variables (i.

In order to evaluate the correlation between variables, it is important to know this "magnitude" or "strength" as well as the significance of the correlation. The significance level calculated for each correlation is a primary source of information about the reliability of the correlation. As explained before (see Elementary Concepts), the significance of a correlation coefficient of a particular magnitude will change depending on the size of the sample from which it was computed.

The test of significance is based on the assumption that the distribution of the residual values (i. However, Monte Carlo studies suggest that meeting those assumptions closely is not absolutely crucial if your sample size is not very small and when the departure from normality is not very large. It is impossible to formulate precise recommendations based on those Monte- Carlo results, but many researchers follow a rule of thumb that if your sample size is 50 or more then serious biases are unlikely, and if your sample size is over 100 then you should not be concerned at all with the normality assumptions.

Outliers are atypical (by definition), infrequent observations.

Because of the way in which the regression line is determined (especially the fact that it is based on minimizing not the sum of simple distances but the sum of squares of distances of data points from the line), outliers have a profound influence on the slope of the regression line and consequently on the value of the correlation coefficient.

A single outlier is capable of considerably changing the slope of the regression line and, consequently, the value of the correlation, as demonstrated in the following example.

Sirba daawitee fi hirphaa durii

Note, that as shown on that illustration, just one outlier can be entirely responsible for a high value of the correlation that otherwise (without the outlier) would be close to zero.Search predictions are generated by an algorithm automatically without human involvement. Will the Eagles be able to contain Rams running back Todd Gurley. Here are this week's NJ Advance Media staff predictions, as well as a roundup of NFL analyst picks for Sunday's critical game: As Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks illustrated, games between a pair of playoff caliber teams can be decided by which team makes the fewest mistakes or commits the fewest penalties.

These teams are about as evenly matches they come: Both are tied for the NFL's leading scoring offense, averaging 30. This being the second consecutive road game for the Eagles, and a rather substandard showing from the offensive line against the Seahawks last week, give a slight edge to the Rams. This is a very tough spot for the Eagles.
